Skin Bleaching In Jamaica Documentary

Vice does a documentary about Jamaica which includes the controversial skin bleaching craze. The people in the documentary clearly show that they believe a lighter shade is way of getting closer to what global society believes to be the standard of beauty. Do some know that the melanin in the skin is actually a secret to blocking the rays from the sun,helps when it comes to aging and the many other benefits?

Perhaps when the biggest female stars for black culture are Rihanna and Beyonce who are of a lighter shade it may lead some to try to achieve that look by any means. Hollywood also perpetuates this problem when casting in movies such as Nina Simone's biopic. A dark skin American iconic civil rights / singer was portrayed by a lighter skin lady.
