Sylvester Stallone has one of the most popular and highly regarded sports movie franchises ever with Rocky. The series has even brought a spinoff of Creed which follows the life of the son of Apollo Creed who was the original antagonist turned friend of Rocky Balboa.
So when Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundren) muttered the words “If he dies, he dies” movie goers of 1980’s cinema heard some of the best quotes of that theatrical era. It was the end of the flamboyant boxer Apollo Creed (some say modeled after Muhammad Ali) who ended up dying in the ring.
Drago could be coming back to the big screen in the sequel about Creed’s son Adonis.
Original Rocky screenwriter/actor Sylvester Stallone hinted about the return of the Russian fighter in Creed II.
“JUST DONE …. if you are curious, around 439 handwritten pages translates into about a 120 page typed screenplay …#writers cramp #rockybalboa #drago #adoniscreed #MGM,” wrote Stallone on Instagram.
Of course, the “drago” hashtag grabbed people’s attention immediately with fans of the franchise hoping to possibly see a second generation Creed vs Drago bout.
While the first Creed was clearly focused on the sport of boxing, Hip Hop played a significant role in the 2015 Ryan Coogler-directed motion picture.
Philadelphia rapper Tone Trump had a supporting part in the movie.
Tessa Thompson starred as Adonis Creed’s (Michael B. Jordan) love interest Bianca, a music artist partially inspired by the late Hip Hop/R&B vocalist Aaliyah.
In addition, the Creed soundtrack was filled with songs by some of the biggest names in modern rap such as Meek Mill, The Roots, Joey Bada$$, Vince Staples, Donald Glover, and Tory Lanez.
