(WWETV ATLANTA) Obediah Wright is the dance choreographer the stars who was given an opportunity to work with such legendary artists such as the late great Ray Charles, Dionne Warwick, Aretha Franklin, Manhattan Transfer, M’bogeni Ngema (Composer/Choreographer of the Broadway musical “Sarafina”), the Pointer Sisters, Diana Ross, and Debbie Allen. He has also worked with contemporary artists like Janet Jackson, Erykah Badu, and Ashanti. In being humble this talented individual gave back to his community via Legacy Garden by giving free dance classes to the youth in the Atlanta region. What better place for this to take place than the landmark formerly known as the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center For The Arts.

In 1986 while rehearsing for an NBC television special during the day, Obediah performed each evening in the Billie Holiday Theater’s production of “Blues for a Gospel Queen: The Mahalia Jackson Story”. It was during this production that a fellow cast member noticed Obediah’s natural ear for harmony and encouraged him to audition for a new singing group which was already signed to an independent record label. For the next two years he was known as the “Blackman” of the underground house music group Two Puerto Ricans, a Black Man and a Dominican, whose underground classic “Do it Properly” took the group to Japan, Italy, Hong Kong and several cities throughout North America.

Below are some of the accolades bestowed upon Obediah Wright.
