Movie In The Works About Black Panther Leader Fred Hamtpon

(WWETV LOS ANGELES) Director/producer Antoine Fuqua is preparing a movie about the Black Panther Party leader #FredHampton Sr., as part of a first-look deal he has signed with Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group. The untitled movie is a passion project for Fuqua, who has long wanted to make a film about Hampton Sr. It will reportedly be based on Jeffery Haas’ book The Assassination of Fred Hampton: How the FBI and the Chicago Police Murdered a #BlackPanther. Hampton was killed in 1969 during a raid of his apartment conducted by the Chicago Police Department in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. His death was ruled as a justifiable homicide despite being murdered in his sleep. A civil lawsuit was filed in 1982 that resulted in a settlement of $1.85 million. The first film under Fuqua’s deal will be The Equalizer 2 starring Denzel Washington, which will hit theaters on Sept. 14, 2018. Fuqua also directed The Magnificent Seven for Sony and MGM last year. His other credits include Training Day, Southpaw, Olympus Has Fallen, and Brooklyn’s Finest. He began his career with 1998’s The Replacement Killers, which Sony released.
