NAS Breaks Down Illmatic To Harvard Professor

“My poetry’s deep, I never fell. Nas’s raps should be locked in a cell. It ain’t hard to tell…”

In 2013, Harvard University established the Nasir Jones Fellowship in his honor. The mission of the fellowship was “to seek projects from scholars and artists that build on the rich and complex Hip-Hop tradition.” Nas has went on to participate on panels at the institution and his classic Illmatic album was recently selected as 1 of 4 hip hop albums to be preserved in Harvard’s library.

Harvard interviewed Nas about explaining his lyricism to educate the masses about his pen work. The Havard poetry professor, Elisa New, spoke with Nas about the Illmatic single, “It Ain’t Hard To Tell.”
