The singer was found unresponsive at lunchtime on Saturday, St Charles County police said.

Berry's seven-decade career boasted a string of hits, including classics Roll Over Beethoven and Johnny B. Goode.

He received a lifetime achievement Grammy in 1984 and was among the first inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.

"Unfortunately, the 90-year-old man could not be revived and was pronounced deceased at 1:26pm," the statement continued.

Chuck Berry to many is the Real King of Rock 'N Roll and that Elvis Presley is incorrectly called that by the media. The legendary John Lennon put it most succinctly. "If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it 'Chuck Berry.'"

In any case, below are some videos for those who don't know about this man who helped change the face of music in the middle part of the last century.

Historically, the passing of Chuck Berry is up there with the passing of James Brown or Michael Jackson. This man is THE architect of rock guitar as well rock and roll itself - even though much of his music qualified equally well as Blues and R&B.

Chuck Berry was a key element used in the storytelling of the classic 1980's movie Back To The Future when Marty Mcfly showed time travel of how Berry inspired the kids of the kids who listened to his music. This pretty much sums it up how much influence Check Berry had on the industry.
