Jay Z is undoubtedly one of the most successful hip hop artists ever, but he was also known for having success hustling drugs in the streets. Some of his critics use that against him when talking about his empire of products that has grossed him immensely. President Obama has been accused by some as associating himself with a criminal as he has made Jay Z attend government functions in the past. In a New York Times article we hear Jay Z in a video do commentary on what he sees as an epic fail that is the "War On Drugs".

“A History of the War on Drugs From Prohibition to Gold Rush,” is narrated by Jay Z, which documents the drug game from Nixon to Reagan to today’s legalization of certain drugs. How minorities have been targeted unfairly in the "War On Drugs" and how prisons have seen population explosions with growth of over 900%.

He states the following:

“Young men like me who hustled like me became the sole villain and drug addicts lacked moral fortitude,” Jay Z says in the video.
