In the television realm, Donald Glover first made a name for himself as a writer on NBC’s 30 Rock, and later through his role as Troy on NBC’s Community. In the hip hop realm, Childish Gambino has earned fans worldwide since hitting the scene around 2008 and snagging a grammy nomination for his album Because the Internet in 2015. Now, the 32-year-old visionary is taking on even more creative roles with his new series Atlanta, which debuted on FX on Tuesday, September 6th. Over one million viewers tuned in to the premiere, and critics and fans are loving the show so far. With overwhelming positive feedback on social media and an impressive 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s clear that Atlanta is headed for major success.

ATLANTA

If you haven’t yet seen Atlanta, you’re probably wondering, “What is it about?” Even if you have seen it, it’s hard to place the series like this in a box or slap a label on it. It successfully meshes comedy, satire, drama and hip hop in a way that tackles so many controversial subjects including race, gender, sexuality, the music business, family dynamics, power, purpose and so many more. It’s safe to say that we really haven’t seen anything quite like this on television before. You’ll want to add this to your weekly list of Fall favorites ASAP.

Along with Atlanta, the entertainer recently debuted new music for fans over a weekend-long concert event in Joshua Tree, California, in anticipation of his upcoming album Pharos. Although no exact details have been announced, the project is expected to drop sometime soon. He is taking over various sides of the business and he isn’t showing signs of slowing down anytime soon.

In case you missed it, catch the first episode of Atlanta on YouTube for free, and stay tuned for more upcoming episodes of the show on FX every Tuesday.
