Top 3 Highlights of the 2016 VMAs
By: Miaira Jennings (@miairajennings)
MTV’s Video Music Awards event is a time to come together to celebrate a year of artistry, creative videography and of course, and clearly a Beyoncé takeover. There was not a dull moment at this year’s VMAs, but a few people walked away as the top dogs of the night. Here’s a list of the 3 biggest 2016 VMAs moments:
1. The Beyoncé Takeover

It has certainly been a huge year for Beyoncé after dropping her visual album Lemonade, so it’s only fitting that she snagged multiple awards this year. Did anyone expect anything less?! She cleaned up category after category for her work on Formation, and absolutely slayed her performance.
2. Kanye’s Speech and Video Debut

Many people were excited and a bit nervous after it was announced that MTV was giving Kanye West “four minutes to do whatever” at this year’s VMAs. With that time, he decided to give a speech in typical “Yeezy” form, then entertained us with the debut of his Faded video.
Yes, it was supposed to be Kanye’s moment to shine, but it’s safe to say that Teyana Taylor stole the show. The singer-dancer and absolutely killed it as the focal point in this steamy video. Celebrities and fans from around the world have been showing her love online (including the OG fans who’ve been down this since the MTV ‘Sweet 16’ and Google Me Baby days). Plus, is she #FitGoals or what?!

3. Rihanna’s Big Moment

Rihanna received a major honor and some major love from Drake. The Michael Jackson Vanguard award is an impressive accomplishment to add to the list of awards received by the 28-year-old songstress. I’m sure she’ll be adding the heartfelt proclamation of love from Drake to her list of personal highlights of the evening (because I’m not sure I know a woman who wouldn’t).
