“The Distance” was produced by Saukrates who also plays the violin. The song is just in time for the 2016 Summer Olympics. Maestro Fresh Wes will also be on another sports-related project with “Underestimated” collaboration with JRDN and JD Era for the soundtrack of the NHL 2017 video game, created by EA Sports.
Maestro Fresh Wes recently was interviewed by HipHopCanada.
HipHopCanada: How did you end up collaborating with Saukrates on here, and how did he end up deciding to play the violin for the track? Maestro Fresh Wes: Soxx pulled out his violin just to lay a reference for a violinist. But I’m glad he kept it… he’s dope. I was like, “We’re gonna keep that track! You smashed it!” He said he was inspired by some Al Green tunes.
HipHopCanada: You’ve been fortunate enough to be involved in the representing Canadian athletes – as a Canadian musician – for a few years now. What’s that experience been like for you? Maestro Fresh Wes: With these songs I get the opportunity to put myself in the mind of an athlete: What are they aspiring to achieve ? That’s why a lot of these songs have a triumphant feel to them.
