Hello WWETV viewers. This is my first blog for this site and I would like to say it has me a little emotional. I took to instagram as my regular daily routine (hey life is boring and not all fun and games) and I see one of the most impactful (Kanye copyright lol) hip hop artists for the females ever not looking like her old self.
Yes, I am speaking about Lil' Kim who is hip hop royalty along with Notorious B.I.G. who helped New York stay on the hip hop map in the 1990's. The time when I grew up watching the genre explode into mainstream success. There had been other females who done it before such as Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, and even Canada's own Michie Mee.

However, they did not do it with the sex appeal of Lil' Kim who went a little further shall we say in the sex appeal department. She was the poster girl for all the teenage boys coming of age and pretty sure she was many hip hop fans first crush. Who can forget the pose she made popular that Nicki Minaj blatantly copied or to other people's view paid homage? What would make her want to do a complete makeover decades later?

For newer fans of hip hop you may not understand the presence and star power Lil' Kim had on stage to the point that she sometimes stole the show from some of the greatest rappers in history. Who could forget Lil Kim on the classic Source Awards performing as the 1st Lady of Bad Boy Records on the same stage with also the talented Faith Evans?
History has shown us that the two ladies of Bad Boy Records loved the same man that was the lead of that label in Biggie Smalls. Faith Evans was the chosen one who Biggie decided to put a ring on it. Notorious B.I.G. had a thing for light skinned women as he also had a fling with Charlie Baltimore. Although Lil' Kim undoubtedly had the biggest star power of these women, it clearly seemed like Queen Bee must have not felt the queen of the kingdom although she was in fact holding that seat next to the King of New York.
As years have passed on, Lil Kim and the hip hop scene have changed dramatically as many women have come and some have taken shots at the throne such as Nicki Minaj. One thing that has Lil' Kim in social media discussion is her changing looks. Being a fan and a female I won't get into mudslinging at Kim as there clearly is a problem here. We have lost many legends recently in music from Prince to David Bowie and even Whitney Houston. I say the hip hop world doesn't shun her away with jokes, but try to understand why Lil' Kim is doing this and maybe someone close to her can get her some help.
I'm not saying I'm a psychiatrist or anything of that sort, but I do know it must not have been an easy time since the hey day of Bad Boy Records for Queen Bee. It also must not be easy for her losing Biggie Smalls who no doubt help mold her into one of the greatest female hip hop artists we have ever seen. Her jail time and the rise of the likes of Nicki Minaj must be taking its toll on Kimberly. I was suppose to start next week for WWETV, but I had to put fingers to the keyboard to speak on this after seeing her instagram.
I truly hope we are not seeing the self destruction of a hip hop legend before our own eyes without the hip hop universe not reaching out to her. My prayers are for her not to be another sad case of one of our musical icons falling over the edge to forever be lost in the abyss that has swallowed many before.
