THE ASSASSINATION OF MALCOLM X - Today In History

Today in History: February 21, 1965

El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz better known as Malcolm X was assassinated at the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem, New York. As Malcolm X was preparing to address the Organization of Afro-American Unity someone in the audience yelled "Nigger! Get your hand outta my pocket!"

Malcolm X and his bodyguards tried to quiet down the situation when a man rushed toward him and shot him. A sawed-off shotgun to the chest ended the life of one of the most pivotal figures in the civil rights movement. Malcolm X was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital at the age of 39.
