(WWETV) Black History Month always takes a look back on the achievements and struggle of blacks, but are we also looking forward this month to what may be the future of hip hop? Throughout the history of hip hop there have always been messages in hip hop mixed in with less meaningful music.
However, has the time come when the culture is waking up to the true power it has that can spark changes in society? On widely popular entertainment platforms we have seen Kanye West perform a gospel type song entitled "Ultralight Beam" on Saturday Night Live. Gospel music was used in times to uplift the black community in times of struggle. Giving people hope and strength. Something it seems Kanye West has infused into his latest project "The Life Of Pablo".

Then we had Beyonce who performed with a tribue to Malcolm X and Black Panthers in the backdrop of the biggest sporting event of the year when she shocked many at Superbowl 50. Kendrick Lamar who was once snubbed by the The Grammys for rap album of the year performed a black activism set at the show.
All Def Digitial goes into more detail about this in the video above.
The industry has seen the likes of artists of this nature with acts like Tupac Shakur who was the son of a Black Panther. His early works included songs of upliftment such as Brenda's Got A Baby and he even participated in Black Panther meetings as the one below.
Will the new leaders of the urban music genre bring back the strength and power that can incite the powers that be to address the ills of society currently going on?
