To the uniniated in the hip hop world many would consider Drake to be the first person to put Toronto and Canadian hip hop on the map. However, this is not the case as in 1988 Michie Mee made her television debut with CBC with a feature on "What's New". Then then 18 year old rapper would soon record her first record soon afterwards.
Michie Mee became the first Canadian hip-hop recording artist to sign to a major U.S. label and garnered a Juno nomination for 'Rap Recording of the Year' for her celebrated 1991 debut album Jamaican Funk, Canadian Style — whose 25th anniversary is part of She Got Next.
The event takes place at Harbourfront on February 7 from 5:00pm-7:00pm in downtown Toronto.
