During one of the greatest runs in WWE history, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson quietly walked away from wrestling. He wanted a new challenge and that was the world of acting in movies.

Dwayne Johnson decided to jump in the ring as a professional wrestler when he was in his 20s. He wanted to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather before him. In 1996, Dwayne made his WWE debut as "Rocky Maivia" at Madison Square Garden at Sruvivor Series.

By the end of his first match, Dwayne says the crowd was cheering him on and chanting his name...but that all soon changed. The fans starts chanting "Rocky Sucks" and "Die Rocky Die". He learned one thing from the situation and that is to "be yourself" as he believes the fans wanted him to be more genuine than the smiley babyface kissing babies he started out as.

After playing football for four years at the University of Miami, Dwayne Johnson was passed over by the NFL. While he played for the Canadian Football League for a short time, he was ultimately cut from his team, the Calgary Stampeders, and sent packing. At 23, Dwayne found himself living in his parents' small apartment, battling depression.
