In March of 2013, the critically acclaimed website for CBC news released a greatest 25 rappers in Canadian history list which caused a stir between the mainstream and underground aspects of the hip hop scene in the country of Canada. The list was compiled by industry people across the country and journalists which still remain anonymous. One industry think tank believes CBC had the list all wrong and has been the only outlet that has challenged the list that has been floating online for over two years. David House Movements took the task of challenging their list and has given an alternative which of course some will disagree with when he posted on his facebook his choices for G.O.AT. of Canadian rap.
Below is the original list which caused controversy by CBC who have covered hip hop in the mainstream media such as 2001's first ever prime time documentary for hip hop in the country with The Smugglaz "Street Rappers" Documentary and then in 2013 with'Love, Props and the T.Dot' documentary.
2001 CBC NATIONAL NEWS HIP HOP DOCUMENTARY: STREET RAPPERS
2013 CBC HIP HOP SUMMIT DOCUMENTARY: LOVE, PROPS, AND THE T-DOT
25. Joey Stylez 24. Ghettosocks 23. Eternia 22. JD Era 21. Ian Kamau 20. Reema Major 19. Red1 (Rascalz) 18. King Lou (Dream Warriors) 17. Infinite 16. Rich Kidd 15. Adam Bomb 14. Choclair 13. Buck 65 12. Moka Only 11. K’naan 10. Michie Mee 09. Cadence Weapon 08. D-Sisive 07. Saukrates 06. Classified 05. k-os 04. Drake 03. Kardinal Offishall 02. Shad 01. Maestro Fresh Wes
It seems the only position that both David House Movements and CBC agree with is that Maestro Fresh Wes is the undisputed King and G.O.A.T. of all Toronto rap artists. It is also a bit surprising David House Movements didn't include Michie Mee whom many say is the undisputed Queen and G.O.A.T. of Toronto female artists.
