Straight Outta Compton Not Being Played In Compton

(WWETV) Straight Outta Compton is undoubtedly a success across movie theaters in the world, but except in the actual place of its namesake Compton. That's right, Straight Outta Compton is not being shown in Compton. The economics of the area has caused there to be no place to show movies and Paramount is the closest area which is five miles away where movie lovers can go see the film.

“‘It’s a low income area, it’s been heavily dis-invested in,’ USC professor of sociology Manuel Pastor said. ‘When you live in a community that doesn’t have that kind of retail, it’s a sign that the community is devalued and people within the community feel devalued.'”

A business group is hoping to change that with plans to build a 16-screen movie theater, as well as other retail businesses, in the community. Compton patiently waits for this to happen sooner than later, so they can see the exploits of their region on the big screen before it hits television.
