The man who everyone once hated during the mid 1980's Rock 'N Wrestling Era in "Rowdy" Roddy Piper has died at the age of 61 according to TMZ Sports. The legendary figure was a pivotal star that rivaled Hulk Hogan in the original WrestleMania and is known for being a pioneer in the genre. He also had a huge public feud with the 1980's icon Mr. T which recently around the WWE 2014 Hall of Fame ceremony it seemed. Roddy Piper himself was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005 with Hulk Hogan.
He was born as Roderick George Toombs and he died through cardiac arrest, while he was asleep in his home Thursday night in Hollywood. He was found dead on Friday. He was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in 2006, but family members say he was "cancer free" at the time of his death. In November, Roddy Piper himself confirmed he no longer had the cancer.
TMZ reports a representative for Roddy Piper stated "I am devastated at this news. Rod was a good friend as well as a client and one of the most generous, sincere and authentic people I have ever known. This is a true loss to us all." Roddy is survived by his wife Kitty and their 4 kids -- including 3 daughters and son Colton who's pursuing a career in professional wrestling.
