In this video, Damon Dash, founder of roca-a-fella records, says that the recent bankruptcy by rapper 50 Cent is due to the pressure being felt by many hip-hop artists to exaggerate their wealth and pretend they have more money than they actually do.

“If it would have been me that went bankrupt they would have had my head,” Dame jokes.

He later adds, “50’s playing at a professional level. Maybe he might not have had an understanding of what it was before, but I know he has an understanding of what it is now… It looks like 50’s a real businessman.”

According to Dame, bankruptcy is part of business. He also admitted his days with the Roc were filled with acting as if the crew had more wealth than they actually did.

“At Roc-A-Fella that was our marketing – a lot of flash, not as much cash,” explains Dame. “We would always pretend that we had more than we had, so we would always make something look bigger.”
