In the interview you hear Drake mention that Toronto rappers always wanted to branch out by getting out of Toronto and heading to New York and that today it is different for artists in the city who no longer need to do that to make it.

Well, there needs to be a history lesson here in terms of that. Toronto and New York mirrored each other in the early days of hip hop's growth and artists from the Big Apple actually wanted to work with The Six's best talent such as KRS ONE who introduced the world to Michie Mee and in turn Michie Mee introudcued the world to Toronto artists like The Dream Warriors.

This week's Friday Flashback takes a look at the pioneers who laid the foundation for Robin Banks. Anyone who knows vintage and true hip hop history of the city has to acknowledge that The Dream Warriors and The Smugglaz did a lot to advance hip hop for Jane and Finch.

Michie Mee debuted The Dream Warriors on the hip hop classic "Victory Is Calling" which featured legendary MC Lyte.

Michie Mee also was a guest star in The Smugglaz classic video 45th Dumpin during the height of Toronto's infamous "Year of The Gun" in 2005. It was the return of The Smugglaz after the initial hit of "Street Rappers" which made headline news across Canada.
