A CHAPTER OF TORONTO HIP HOP HISTORY CLOSES

The history of Toronto has a rich history of music and one of its biggest contributors in cultivating the city's talent was the York University radio station CHRY 105.5FM Radio show. The station's demise (it has been rebranded as Vibe, but who knows what it will entail in the future as another once time "urban commercial station" once was) is a huge loss for a city as multicultural as Toronto. CHRY's slogan is "Your leading source for diversity." You could hear shows in French, Tamil, Italian, Tagalog, Twi, Hebrew and many other languages.

Of course, hip hop thrived on the air with talent that lived by such as the legendary Jane-Finch rap groups The Dream Warriors & The Smugglaz. It was a place where the hottest underground hip hop acts could get their music heard when mainstream radio would not even sniff at the thought of airing hip hop. It is truly a closing in the chapter of grassroots radio for Toronto artists. Below is the report from Jane-Finch.com:
