(WWETV) Maestro Fresh Wes is still going strong with many years under his belt in the hip hop scene for Canada. Everyone who grew up in the 1980's saw him explode onto the scene with his classic hit songs "Let Your Backbone Slide" & "Drop The Needle". He has been an inspiration for many over the years in the city such as Kardinal Offishall, Dan-e-o and Sticky Green (Smugglaz).

Now he is back at it again with a new project entitled Maestro Fres Wes Compositions Volume 1 which you can download here. Itcontains artists and producers including recent JUNO winner Rich Kidd, vocalist JRDN, Beatbox Champion Scott Jackson, JD Era, and King Reign. Producers include Andrew "Triple A", Rich Kidd, and Tone Mason. The Rezza Brothers are credited with production and lending their vocals to this project.
The track listing is as follows: 1. I KNOW YOUR MOM 2. UNDERESTIMATED (feat. JD ERA and JRDN) 3. I CAN'T BREATHE (feat. KING REIGN) 4. THIS IS MY UNIVERSE (feat. THE REZZA BROTHERS) 5. BORN IN TORONTO (feat. RICH KIDD) 6. I KNOW YOUR MOM (RICH KIDD Remix) 7. REAL AIN'T REAL (feat. Scott Jackson)
Maestro Fresh continues to give back to his communities around Canada as the "Black Trudeau" recently attended a gala in Regent Park. In an interview with Sportsnet, he stated:
“When I think of Regent, I think of the Concert Hall days,” says the Canadian rap legend, recalling the pre-revitalization days, when he would go downtown to perform “Let Your Backbone Slide” in the late ’80s and early ’90s.
“Coming from Scarborough, it was just ‘Regent! Regent’s in the building.’ That’s all we knew. So we got be on point. That’s what was going through our heads at the time, because that’s the closest projects to the Concert Hall. To see the area evolve and what’s going on now through 3to6, I’m glad to be part of that.”
Maestro encouraged his own son, Chancelor, to dive into sports early and stick with it.
“He’s six and he’s a green belt in tae kwon do. But if I didn’t push him with it, that wouldn’t happen. Sports teach you at a young age that if you start something, you try to finish it,” Maestro says.
“Sports gives them that confidence. Mechanisms have been set in place for young minds to be distracted. So putting them in sports puts them in a position where they have to work with other people, interact with other people and make something happen.”

Toronto rapper & actor Dan-e-o recently sat down with WWETV to speak about seeing Maestro live still doing his fantastic peformances and how he was an inspiration for him getting into entertainment. You can watch the video below:
