Universal Music announced today that Juno Award-winning rapper Kardinal Offishall will serve as the record label's new Creative Executive Director.
The A&R role puts the Scarborough-born star in a position where he will (at least according to the accompanying press release) "complement (Universal Music Canada's) already vibrant A&R team in uncovering, developing and nurturing Canadian artists both domestically and abroad."
It's a duty that the "Dangerous" hitmaker is looking forward to tackling.
"As someone whose patriotism was evident from my first major release, the opportunity to join forces with the most powerful team in the country was one I couldn't pass up,” offered Offishall on his role. "I look forward to engaging the country and the world in new sounds, new artists, and new ways to build upon Canada’s very impressive legacy."
There's currently no word on whether or not Kardinal will use his new gig to help knock out a "Northern Touch" sequel. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
