STILL TORONTO THE GOOD? By Linda Johnson

What a dramatic few weeks we've had here in Toronto The Good. Or should I rephrase that and say Toronto The Bad? I mean who would call Toronto good with a Mayor that is so bad? He is like the Bobby Brown of Politics where he is in the news for all kinds of problems stemming from drug use to alleged marital affairs with women of the night.

Our American friends are now seeing something that they probably never thought they would see and that is a politician from the Great White North that can give any bad boy politican a run for his money down south. Some here in Toronto feel embarrassed by our Mayor, but I say Toronto The Good still has a ways go in matching America's worst politicians.

There has been gold given to comedians all over the world with the antics of our Mayor and Hollywood obviously loves the material Mayor Ford gives almost on a daily basis. However, America let us not forget some of your past transgressions with Bad Boy politicians.

Where do I begin?

Buddy Cianci

The Providence Mayor was one of the longest serving American big city mayors of all-time and had to resign in disgrace due to federal charges including racketeering, conspiracy, extortion, and witness tampering.

Marion Barry

1990 this Mayor of Washington, D.C. was arrested in a joint sting operation by the FBI and the D.C. police for smoking crack cocaine with a prostitute in a D.C area hotel room. At least Mayor Rob Ford (AT THE MOMENT) is denying doing anything with a prostittue. Barry claimed the "bitch set me up", but somehow he got himself involved in jail with a sexual scandal of where he where he was then accused of letting a woman perform oral sex on him in a prison waiting room. Did this stop Barry from having a bad run for a re-election? Not at all as Marion returned four years later to win a fourth term as D.C. mayor. Has he turned a new leaf and become the model citizen?

Bob Filner

Multiple incidents of sexual harassment, including groping, kissing, and making inappropriate comments towards women over the course of his 30-year political career caused the Mayor of Sand Diego to resign. His list of accusers include a 67-year-old great grandmother, a Marilyn Monroe impersonator, and several members of the U.S. armed forces who had been raped during their service and who Filner met during his time as chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Comittee for Veterans' Affairs.

JAMES MICHAEL CURLY

This man was not only a Mayor, but also a kingpin of the Boston Irish Mob. He had a plethora of issues stemming from criminal scandals to federal charges. It was a reason he landed himself in jail. However, Boston was a forgiving city (or he had muscle or connections) and was to be elected four times in a 50-year-period, once from prison in 1947.

KWAME KILPATRICK

Detroit is only 3 hours away from Toronto. Kilpatrick was the mayor of that city that had many people viewing him as not only a politician, but a rock star somewhat like Barack Obama's days as a Senator being elected at the young age of 31, but eventually ended up with a bid of 28 years in federal prison.

At the Detroit mayor's mansion in 2002 his wife Carlita Kilpatrick physically assaulted a 27-year-old stripper named "Strawberry", who was soon after mysteriously found dead in an unsolved homicide.

Although nothing came of the investigation, Kilpatrick was eventually forced out of office in 2008, after being found guilty of two dozen counts, including racketeering, extortion, mail fraud, and tax evasion.
